The DIO6986C is a high-efficiency synchronous step-down DC/DC regulator capable of delivering 6 A of current. Its low RDS(ON) switches minimize the conduction loss. Even under heavy loads, the device operates at a quasi-constant frequency of 600 kHz to reduce the size of the inductor and capacitor. The DIO6986C also provides a fixed 5 V LDO with 100 mA current capability to power the external peripheries. The LDO can switch over to buck regulator output to save power loss. The fast-response, adaptive constant-on-time (COT) control method supports high input/output voltage ratios (low duty cycles) and fast transient response while maintaining a near-constant operating frequency over the line, load, and output voltage ranges. This control method provides stable operation without complex compensation and even with low ESR ceramic capacitors. The DIO6986C has a wide input voltage range from 4.5 V to 28 V and includes various safety features such as cycle-by-cycle current limit, input undervoltage lockout, internal soft-start, output undervoltage protection, overvoltage protection, and thermal shutdown. These features ensure the device's safe operation in all operating conditions.
