The DIO6988A is a synchronous step-down DC/DC regulator with great efficiency that can deliver 8 A current across a large input voltage range of 4.5 V to 28 V. High input/output voltage ratios (low duty cycles) and quick transient reactions are supported by the fast-response, adaptive constant-on-time (COT) control approach, which also maintains a nearly constant operating frequency over the line, load, and output voltage ranges. Even with ceramic capacitors that have low ESR, this control approach offers steady operation without the need for intricate adjustment. Excellent efficiency across a wide range of applications is provided by internal 20 mΩ and 10 mΩ synchronous rectifier switches, particularly at low output voltages and short duty cycles. Additionally, the DIO6988A includes a bypass switch that enables the IC to draw power from an external DC source. Cycle-by-cycle current limitation, input undervoltage lockout, internal soft-start, output undervoltage protection, output overvoltage protection, and thermal shutdown ensure safe operation under all operating circumstances. The DIO6988A is available in a compact QFN2.5×2.5-16 package.
